Grooming Your Beagle

Beagles are generally considered to be an low-maintenance grooming breed; however they still need regular grooming, with particular attention paid to keeping your Beagle’s ears clean and free of excess wax build-up.

Ears: General Cleaning
Product: Vetoquinol (Vet Solutions) Ear Cleanser

Step 1: Fill ear canal with cleanser

Step 2: Massage Ear

Step 3: Allow dog to shake

Step 4: Gently use cotton balls to remove dirt and debris from ear canal.

Repeat every 2 to 4 weeks, as needed for general cleaning of the ears. 

Ears: Excess Wax
Product: Zymox

Step 1: Fill ear canal with gel

Step 2: Massage Ear

Step 3: Leave it alone, DO NOT remove the gel, and DO NOT clean the ears until treatment is completed in 7-10 days.

Repeat daily for 7-10 days, then use again as needed when regular cleanser (above) is not enough to keep the Beagle's ears clean. 

Coat: Brushing
Product: Bristle Brush (any brand) or Furminator tool

Brush all over your Beagle, removing loose hair.

Repeat every 2 to 4 weeks, as needed; to remove shedding hairs or debris from coat. This also helps to keep the coat shiny. 

Coat: Bathing
Product: Dog Shampoo (any brand)

Step 1: Soak dog's coat in warm water

Step 2: Lather with dog shampoo

Step 3: Rinse

Step 4: Towel Dry

Repeat every 4 weeks, as needed.

Nails: Trimming or Grinding
Product: Dremel Pet Nail Grinder or Dog Nail Trimmer (any brand)

Start slowly and reward your Beagle for allowing you to trim/grind their nails.

​

Food rewards are recommended.

​

Only remove the very tip of the nail until you are more comfortable with nail trimming techniques.

​

Repeat every 2 to 6 weeks, as needed.
